I have long admired Joshua, who so trusted in God’s promise to him he asked that the sun stand still until he had conquered his enemies. And it did! But before he stepped into battle, he was charged repeatedly, to be strong and courageous. Over and over, God reminded him. In heeding God’s word, Joshua stepped forward into his promised land.
Not only was this man an effective spy, a faithful servant, and a warrior to be reckoned with, but he was a man of his word. To me, this is one of his most admirable qualities. When Rahab asked that he and his men keep her family safe, Joshua responded, “It shall come about when the Lord gives us the land that we will deal kindly and faithfully with you.” And they did. Because he said they would. Whether is was of great cost to him or not, he kept his word. That is a man I would have followed.
